Approval Procedures for Civil Aviation Products and Parts

CCAR-21-R4 (Chinese)

Decoding Revision 4 to CCAR-21 (Chinese)

Type Design Approval (TDA)

The TDA process was introduced by the CAAC to cover Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) that do not have a Type Certificate from their country of origin (usually because they are not required to.)

CCAR-21-R4 (May 2017) created the new Special LSA certification category, thus doing away with the TDA designation. However, the relevant AP linked below has not been updated.

Validation of Type Certificate (VTC)

For a new aircraft to enter the Chinese market, a Validation of Type Certificate (VTC) must be obtained from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for the type, airframe, propeller and engine. VTCs are mainly intended for imported civilian aviation products. After examining the product in accordance with applicable regulations, the Chinese airworthiness authority confirms that the product satisfies the relevant airworthiness requirements, and then issues the Certificate to the holders of the product Type Certificate.
